Hornet Ratings
Hi there, Adok is hitting the keyboard again.
As you know, Hornet is shutting down shortly, and the archive is being transferred to scene.org. As the fate of Hornet's ratings is unknown, I decided to save the ratings of all diskmags, because I was personally interested in them. When I looked at the ratings, I thought they could be interesting for you out there, too. So, here they are, sorted by years:

Comments
Have you looked through the list? Then you may have noticed that only the ratings of one year can be compared with each other. A mag that got four stars in 1992 would have got three or two and a half star in 1996, for instance. Probably the current maintainer of the diskmag archive rated the mags right after moving them from /incoming/mags. So the ratings are not reliable in order to see what mag is good and what mag is bad in global.
Some examples:
- The highest rating reached was four and a half stars out of five. That means that there has been no "perfect" diskmag yet. The mags that acheived the highest rating are: Imphobia #6, World Charts #1, Contrast #3, and Imphobia #12. However, the fact that Imphobia #6 got more stars than most Imphobia issues after it does not mean that this issue is better than the other ones. It just says that this magazine was great for its time, just like World Charts. Both mags were indeed a revolution in the diskmag scene.
You may be surprised at the high rating of Contrast #3, for it is not a very well-known mag. The reason is probably that although it did not have many articles most of them were of a good quality. The mag had a special corner about the forthcoming The Party and a good-looking interface. Maybe the rater paid more attention to the interface, because Contrast #3 appears to be better than the Imphobia issues of that time. But I don't think so. Both mags were great.
- Hoax #2 (the first Hoax issue in the archive) had less text than issue 1, and Hoax #3 had a better interface than Hoax #2 and an equal article quantity/quality but got fewer stars.
- The same applies to Scenial: Issue 1, which got bad feedback in other mags, got 4 stars, like the 2nd issue, whereas the famous and really good issue 4 (a satirical magazine about the scene) got only 3 stars.
The diskmags from 1998, except Pain 1/98, have lately been added to the archive after Phoenix took over the job of maintaining it from GD. That was after I had written the first version of this article. Despite the maintainer's change, it is nice to see how consistent the rating scheme has been kept and how well the recent diskmags do in comparison with the older ones. However, the ratings probably cannot be compared with those of 1995 and before.
