64b Hugi Xmas Compo

The 64b Hugi Xmas Compo is now over. You can download the entries with their source codes and the voting results here:

Below follow the rules of the compo:

You are hereby invited to participate in the 64b Hugi Xmas Compo.

This compo is different than the usual Hugi size coding compo. Here you're encouraged to show off your creativity in 64 bytes. Since this is new, the rules are relaxed and the results will not be recorded in the World League Table.

Send your entries to Adok at: cdvolko@gmx.net

You may send as many different entries as you like, but they must be received on or before midnight (Central European Time) December 24, 2006 (Christmas eve).

Adok may tell you if your entry does not work on his computer, thus giving you the chance to fix it.

After the deadline, Adok will package up all the entries and send them to each participant.

There will be a one-week judgment period were the participants get to vote for their favorites. Vote for your choice of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. You may not, however, vote for your own entry (or entries). Points will be awarded as follows:

1st place: 11 points
2nd place: 7 points
3rd place: 5 points

(This is the method used at the Assembly party.)

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners will be posted on the Internet, along with the points awarded to each.

RULES

You must submit your source code along with your executable. The executable (presumably a .com file -- .bat files are not acceptable) must not exceed 64 bytes in length. The source code (presumably an .asm file) may be of any length.

Entries must work on Adok's computer.

You may name your entry whatever you like, although it must not depend on its name; for example, it must still work if it's renamed.

Your entry cannot depend on its source code to run. In other words, your entry must work even if its source code file is not loaded into the computer. (No cheating! :-)

It goes without saying, but your entry must not harm a computer. It must not write to the drive. Entries must run from write-protected floppy diskettes under Windows XP.

There are no restrictions on MMX instructions or Windows calls, however if your entry does not run on a variety of machines, it's not likely to get many votes.

Your entry may run in an infinite loop. It's not necessary (although desirable) to provide a method for terminating an entry, such as by hitting the Esc key. (Under Windows, it's easy enough to terminate any program with Alt+Enter, etc.)

Your work should be original. For instance, don't rip off one of these great examples at Pouet:

http://www.pouet.net/prodlist.php?type=32b

CONCLUSION

The bottom line is that the rules are somewhat flexible. It's you, the voters, who get to decide what's good and what's not.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to bring them up on this email list.

Even if you don't come in first, don't be disappointed, because in the end we're all winners for the great coding tricks we'll get to learn.

Cheers!
Boreal
